Sejak Tahun Akademik 2008/2009 sampai sekarang, Unit Pelaksana Teknis - Mata Kuliah Umum bekerja sama dengan Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa - Badan Kerohanian Islam (UKM-BKI) melaksanakan program Pembinaan Baca Al-Quran, di mana UKM-BKI sebagai pelaksana teknis pembelajarannya.
Di akhir perkuliahan Pendidikan Agama Islam, mahasiswa yang menempuh mata kuliah tersebut dievaluasi kemampuan membaca Al-Qurannya oleh Dosen yang mengasuh mata kuliah tersebut. Kisaran nilainya sebesar 20% dari nilai total Pendidikan Agama Islam.
Namun demikian, mahasiswa tetap diberi kebebasan untuk belajar membaca Al-Quran di luar lingkup Universitas Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya, karena kinerja mahasiswa yang mengikuti kegiatan tersebut dapat dipantau melalui "Buku Penghubung" yang telah disediakan.
